Abstract

Two high-nuclearity lanthanide-transition metal clusters with the general formula [LnCoCo(OH)(CO)(CHCHCOO)(dea)(HO)]·(NO)·Cl·(CHCHOH)·(HO) (, Ln Gd () and Dy ()) have been obtained by reacting CoCl·6HO, Ln(NO)·6HO, and a mixture of ligands consisting of propionate and diethanolamine (Hdea). Crystal structural analysis exhibits two three-blade propellers composed of the CoLn units connected by one Co ion and three CO ions, which assemble into a double-propeller-like structure (). Magnetocaloric effect (MCE) studies indicate that exhibits a large entropy change (-Δ) of 36.9 J kg K.
