Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Obesity or overweight are two factors associated with insulin resistance (IR). There are limited studies with regard to the role of some non-traditional factors such as sleep quality in level of IR in obese individuals. The current study aimed at investigating the association of sleep quality with IR in overweight or obese people.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

In this cross-sectional study, 612 obese or overweight participants of the Qazvin metabolic disease study (QMDS) were evaluated. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and compared between two groups of participants with and without IR.

RESULTS

Our findings showed that the total score of sleep quality in the IR group was significantly lower than that in the non-insulin resistant group (8.78±2.78 vs. 8.13±2.70, p=0.008). After adjustment, each unit increase of the sleep latency and subjective sleep quality scores was associated with a 1.23 and 1.33 times increased risk of IR, respectively (p<0.05).

CONCLUSION

In the obese or overweight people, sleep quality is associated with IR.

肥胖或超重是与胰岛素抵抗(IR)相关的两个因素。关于一些非传统因素,如睡眠质量在肥胖个体IR水平中的作用的研究有限。本研究旨在调查超重或肥胖人群中睡眠质量与IR的关联。

材料与方法

在这项横断面研究中,对加兹温代谢疾病研究(QMDS)的612名肥胖或超重参与者进行了评估。使用匹兹堡睡眠质量指数(PSQI)测量睡眠质量,并在有和没有IR的两组参与者之间进行比较。

结果

我们的研究结果表明,IR组的睡眠质量总分显著低于非胰岛素抵抗组(8.78±2.78对8.13±2.70,p = 0.008)。调整后,睡眠潜伏期和主观睡眠质量得分每增加一个单位,IR风险分别增加1.23倍和1.33倍(p<0.05)。

结论

在肥胖或超重人群中,睡眠质量与IR相关。
