Abstract

The internal ribosome entry site (IRES) within circular RNAs (circRNAs) has emerged as a dynamic and multifaceted regulatory element, challenging traditional notions of translation initiation in eukaryotic cells. This chapter reviews the current state of research and knowledge on IRES in circRNAs, exploring its molecular mechanisms, physiological roles, and therapeutic implications. As the field continues to evolve, research efforts are essential for a comprehensive understanding of the interplay between IRES and circRNAs. This work also highlights the future directions in the study of IRES within circRNAs, underscoring its significance in gene expression regulation and opening new avenues for therapeutic innovation.
